Unpacking DTTC in Childhood Apraxia of Speech

Unpacking DTTC in Childhood Apraxia of Speech
A Practical, Supportive Training for Speech Pathologists
Treating Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) can feel complex.
You might understand the theory.
You may have read about DTTC.
But when you’re sitting in the therapy room wondering:
- “Am I cueing this correctly?”
- “Is this enough intensity?”
- “How do I know when to move up or down the hierarchy?”
- “Why isn’t this generalising?”
That’s where this training comes in.
DTTC is grounded in principles of motor learning and is one of the most well-supported motor-based approaches for children with CAS — but many clinicians report feeling unsure about how to implement it effectively in real sessions. Let us help you bridge that gap!
This training will help you move from understanding DTTC conceptually to applying it with clarity, precision, and confidence. It is designed to help you feel clearer, calmer, and more confident when working with children with CAS. It focuses on practical implementation, cueing hierarchies, session structure, and real-case examples.
What makes this training different?
This course goes beyond theory. It aims to show how to actually implement DTTC in your therapy sessions straight away. You’ll gain:
- Practical demonstrations
- Real therapy examples
- Clinical decision-making guidance
- Session planning frameworks
- Immediate strategies you can implement the next day
The focus is on building clinical confidence and strengthening your motor speech therapy skills.
This training has been developed based around the DTTC program developed by Dr Edyth Strand, my own clinical experience in working with complex speech sound disorders and CAS and real-life questions from clinical supervision sessions with speechies like yourself.
What will you learn?
- Key principles underpinning DTTC
- Understand and implement the hierarchy cueing levels
- Learn how to choose functional, movement-based word targets
- Structure high-intensity, effective therapy sessions
- Apply principles through case studies and clinical scenarios
- Progress monitoring
